BSAVA PetSavers to offer increased grant funding
6 October 2022
BSAVA PetSavers have increased the value of Clinical Research Project (CRP) grant funding, which will now provide funding of up to £20,000 to cover a project lasting 1-3 years.
These grants are available for the undertaking of small-scale clinical research projects (CRPs) into diseases affecting companion animals, with the ultimate objective of advancing understanding of the causes or management of a clinical disorder. The increased funds can be used to pay for research expenses and consumables, and as part of a new decision by the PetSavers management committee, up to 30% can now be used for research-specific staffing costs.
The grant call for joint-funded research in specialist areas of veterinary science has also reopened. BSAVA PetSavers offer grants of up to £10,000 for research in the fields of veterinary cardiovascular health (jointly funded by the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society), feline and/or canine medical conditions (jointly funded with SAMSoc) and pain management in companion animals (jointly funded by The Debs Foundation).
Jeremy Kirk, incoming Chair, PetSavers Grant Awarding Committee said: “We recognize that increased funding may be needed in order to support meaningful research which will benefit the lives of companion animals. The higher level of funding also comes with increased flexibility to facilitate the projects and encourage a diverse range of applications.”
David Killick, current Grant Awarding Committee Chair continued: “We believe this additional funding will help PetSavers-funded research answer clinically relevant questions more deeply and allow their discoveries to be brought to the clinic for the benefit of our patients more swiftly than before.”
Applications for all of the above grants will open on 1st October 2022 and will close on 31st January 2023, with a funding decision made in autumn 2023. Projects must not include work on experimental animals and should be undertaken within the UK.
