Avian influenza confirmed in Wales

On 3 January 2017 the Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales confirmed a case of avian influenza H5N8 in a backyard flock of chickens and ducks on a premises in Carmarthenshire.

A 3 km Protection Zone and 10 km Surveillance Zone have been put in place around the infected premises. More information is available on the Welsh Government website including the formal Declaration.

Avian Influenza has now also been detected in wild birds in England, Scotland and Wales.  It is therefore important to remain vigilant and report suspected disease or unexplained deaths to the appropriate authorities.
