BSAVA unveils strategic plan to create “a BSAVA for the future”
26 March 2026
The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) has launched a new strategic plan setting out how it will strengthen its support for small animal veterinary professionals at a time of significant change across the sector.
Building on its established role as a trusted provider of small animal clinical guidance, education and professional support, the strategy outlines how the organisation will evolve to meet these challenges. At its heart is a more integrated approach that connects community, learning, practical support and clinical insights to better support veterinary professionals throughout their careers and help realise the BSAVA’s vision of a world where the small animal veterinary profession and professionals can thrive.
Key initiatives include a redesigned digital experience to give members seamless access to the full breadth of the BSAVA’s clinical resources and the launch of LUMOS – a new, modern, flexible CPD programme and platform. Work is underway to evolve the BSAVA membership offer, shaped directly by insight from members and the wider profession so it reflects the realities of modern veterinary practice and what veterinary professionals value most.
The BSAVA is investing in its technology to improve how members and the wider profession access knowledge and resources online, making it easier to access trusted knowledge and support in everyday practice.
Among the new developments, LUMOS will launch later this year, providing high-quality, evidence-led learning for vets and nurses in more flexible and accessible ways across different career stages. The AI-powered ROVER search tool will help clinicians quickly navigate trusted BSAVA resources at the point of care, including the Formulary, Manuals and Library content. A redesigned BSAVA mobile app will make it easier for members to access information on the go, while the ongoing development of regional and digital community spaces will help members stay connected between events.
Together, these investments are intended to make it simpler for members to access the knowledge, resources and support they need throughout their careers.
The strategy also aims to make it easier for volunteers to get involved, with more flexible opportunities for veterinary professionals to contribute their expertise. Members will be supported to connect throughout the year, both in person and online, through regional networks, community activity and key sector events. As the profession continues to adapt to change, the association reconfirms its commitment to ensure members’ perspectives are represented and reflected in its work. It will also strengthen collaboration with partner organisations to address shared challenges and exchange expertise, maintaining its role as a trusted, evidence-led contributor to national and international discussions and promoting high standards of clinical practice and animal welfare.
Stacy Woodman, Interim CEO of the BSAVA, said: “The small animal veterinary profession is evolving rapidly, and the BSAVA must evolve with it. Our new strategy focuses on making knowledge, learning and professional support easier to access throughout a veterinary professional’s career.
“We’re revitalising our simple but powerful premise of ‘the profession supporting the profession’ and are encouraging our members to share their views by taking part in our ongoing Membership Survey and helping to create a BSAVA for the future.
“Through the combined efforts of the BSAVA’s staff, volunteers and wider community, these developments will help ensure veterinary professionals have the knowledge, resources and community they need to deliver exceptional care and the best possible outcomes for animals and their owners.”
