BSAVA’s Woodrow House welcomes new solar panel installation

20 June 2025

A new array of solar panels has been installed at Woodrow House, as part of BSAVA’s ongoing sustainability initiatives, reinforcing the association’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The 240 solar panels are expected to offset a substantial portion of the building’s energy usage, and predicted to generate 78,815 kilowatt hours per year, saving £13,620 in the first year. In the first 6 weeks of the panels being installed, they have saved 1,547 kg of carbon emissions, the equivalent of 94 trees being planted.

The solar panel installation follows several recent sustainability initiatives at BSAVA, including the introduction of electric vehicle chargers at Woodrow House for staff, volunteers and students to use.

The BSAVA was awarded Silver Accreditation from Investors in the Environment at the end of 2023, which signifies a demonstrated commitment to reducing its environmental impact and the continual improvement of its sustainability performance.

Carl Gorman, BSAVA Past President and Chair of the Sustainability Working Group said “I am delighted that BSAVA has committed to such a significant solar project, which strengthens our commitment to sustainability and will substantially reduce our carbon footprint. This marks another important step on the association’s journey towards a greener future, delivering both environmental and financial benefits.”

BSAVA will continue its sustainability efforts and is aiming to achieve Green Accreditation from Investors in the Environment.
