Submissions are open for the BSAVA 2024 vet nurse case reports

8 November 2023

Submissions are now open for unique and interesting vet nurse case reports, to be presented at BSAVA Congress 2024 in Manchester on 21 – 23 March.

The case report can be in any area of small animal nursing, from nurse clinics to critical care. The submission needs to include a short synopsis of the case, using the following outline:

  • Introduction – to include the unique or interesting aspect
  • Synopsis of the case – signalment, initial assessment, physical findings, intervention, patient care and recovery, final outcome
  • Discussion – focus on the specific nursing care and interventions
  • Conclusion – the key nursing points that were learnt from the case, specialised skills and any specialized monitoring equipment used during the case

Due to limited availability, all case report submissions will be assessed with successful candidates chosen to present at BSAVA Congress. Presentations will be limited to up to eight minutes, with two to three minutes of questions, overall lasting 10 minutes.

The presentations will be evaluated by independent individuals, and an award will be given for the overall best-case report. Evaluation guidelines will include the unique aspects of the case, presentation quality, ability to present within a time frame, and response to questions. The case reports are encouraged for submission by veterinary nurses who have not had the opportunity to lecture before, although it is not limited to these individuals.

Kelly Eyre RVN, BSAVA Congress Committee member said: “The VN Case Reports are a great opportunity for aspiring nurses who would like to become speakers at BSAVA or other events and discuss an interesting case from their career. This will be the third year we have had VN Case Reports, and the standard of applications over the last two years has been very high.

“I’m really looking forward to the presentations and I encourage as many people as possible to attend the sessions. It’s very inspiring to see members of the nursing profession presenting their case and feel the passion from the nursing speaker.”

Please submit your case reports to Kelly Eyre, emailing Kelly.eyre@liverpool.ac.uk with ‘Case report’ as the subject line. To find out more about the case reports and BSAVA Congress 2024, visit: https://www.bsavacongress.com/vn-case-reports.
