Launch of Dog Welfare Code of Practice
15 November 2018
The revised Code of Practice for the Welfare of Dogs became law in Wales this week. Some of BSAVA’s Welsh Region members actively participate in The Animal Welfare Network Wales (AWNW) and, along with BSAVA Policy and Officers, provided valuable advice in revising the Code with BVA. AWNW works closely with the Welsh Government and the Code is a great achievement for the Network. By pooling expertise from across the sector, AWNW aims to ensure animal welfare advice and information is up-to-date, relevant and will best protect animals across Wales. The Code will play a vital role in providing owners and keepers of certain species with key welfare information, to help them ensure they support the Animal Welfare Act and that the needs of their animals are adequately met.
Further information on the work of AWNW can be found on their website and the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Dogs can be accessed here.
With thanks to those Welsh Region members who volunteered their time to provide advice and expertise on the Code and ensured that BSAVA continues to work with government to influence national policy and improve animal health and welfare.
