BSAVA mourns loss of inspirational Vet Nurse

12 May 2019

The BSAVA has expressed deep sadness at the sudden death of inspirational veterinary nurse Louise O’Dwyer.

Louise O’ Dwyer MBA BSc (Hons) VTS (Anaesthesia/Analgesia & ECC) DipAVN (Medical and Surgical) RVN contributed a vast amount to the profession in her role as a volunteer for the BSAVA.  She began volunteering in 2010 and was subsequently involved in Membership Development, Congress Programme and Publications Committees, each for three years, and was also a member of North West Regional committee. She was a key contributor to the organisation of the BSAVA’s Vet Nurse Merit Awards.

In 2016 Louise received the inaugural Bruce Vivash Jones Veterinary Nurse Award. This award is presented by the BSAVA as the primary recognition for outstanding contributions to the advancement of small animal veterinary nursing and takes the form of BSAVA manuals and a medal. It is the highest award the Association can bestow on a veterinary nurse.

Sue Paterson BSAVA President said: “All of our nursing colleagues are invaluable members of the veterinary team although exceptional individuals who can combine the drive, commitment, compassion and leadership qualities of Louise are rare jewels indeed. I feel honoured to have known her and share the deep sadness, expressed by hundreds of her friends and colleagues at her untimely passing.

“We realise that Louise’s loss will have affected many people profoundly and we pass on our sincere condolences to her family and friends. Please remember VetLife is there for support for anyone who is struggling with her passing.”
