BSAVA launches new edition of the BSAVA Guide to the Use of Veterinary Medicines

19 July 2023

The BSAVA has launched a new look edition of the BSAVA Guide to the Use of Veterinary Medicines for Summer 2023.

The BSAVA Guide to the Use of Veterinary Medicines has been developed to help veterinary professionals navigate the issues, changes and regulations that face the profession when it comes to the use of veterinary medicines. Edited by David Harris and Pam Mosedale, with contributions from experts in this field, the guide is an invaluable, reassuring resource.

Along with a fresh new look, there are three new sections that cover:

  • Dispensary management and reducing errors
  • Marketing and advertising of veterinary medicines
  • Sustainable prescribing practices.

This year the RCVS and VMD have launched major reviews of the legislation and the Code of Conduct. Following the VMD review, the law in the UK relating to the use of veterinary medicines will be updated. The review of the under care guidance by the RCVS is due to come into force in September 2023 and will also lead to significant changes in medicines use, as well as legal and ethical dilemmas. As a result, we have included a guidance section at the beginning of the Guide that will be updated as required and the Editors encourage all veterinary professionals to stay up to date with the progress of these reviews.

The new BSAVA Guide to the Use of Veterinary medicines is freely available to all via the BSAVA Library.

Review copies are available upon request, please email Ian Mellor at publications@bsava.com.
