The BSAVA welcomes Susan Little as President for 2026-27
29 June 2026
The BSAVA has announced that Dr Susan Little has taken on the role of President, following the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday 26 June.
Susan graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1992 and spent the majority of her career in small animal general practice. In 2000, she founded her own practice, successfully growing it into a three-site operation. After two decades, the practice became part of a larger mixed group and subsequently a corporate organisation, during which time Susan held senior leadership roles including Managing Director and Business Development Director, supporting multiple practices across Scotland and the Scottish Borders.
A long-standing and dedicated BSAVA volunteer, Susan began her involvement at regional level before progressing to Regions Coordinator. She later served a three-year term as Chair of the BSAVA PetSavers Management Committee. Following a short break, she returned to the Association in 2024 as a Trustee and joined the Presidential ladder as Junior Vice President.
In addition to her work with the BSAVA, Susan volunteers with Vetlife and has contributed to the RCVS university accreditation panel, whilst supporting several other charitable initiatives.
Taking over from outgoing President Dr Julian Hoad, Susan will continue to drive forward the Association’s programme of change and strategic priorities for 2026 and beyond.
Speaking about her new role at the AGM, Susan said: “I am very much looking forward to working closely with our Executive Leadership Team, Board, Volunteers, Staff and most importantly, our members, to keep rolling out the support, opportunities and products that our members value.
“It has been both interesting and a privilege to have served my first two years as a trustee, where as a team we see lots of opportunity for representation, innovation, collaboration, growth and strengthening of our BSAVA community.”
After two years as BSAVA President, Julian Hoad will now move into the role of Senior Vice President, whilst Niall Connell moves into the role of Vice President with Matt Erskine joining the Presidential ladder as Junior Vice President.
Reflecting on his Presidency, Julian Hoad said: “It has been an honour to serve as BSAVA President over the past two years. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together as an Association, from strengthening support for our members to advancing our strategic ambitions. I would like to thank our volunteers, staff and members for their dedication and commitment, and I look forward to continuing to support Susan and the Presidential team as Senior Vice President.”
