BSAVA gives evidence at CMA Hearing
17 March 2025
The CMA’s investigation into veterinary services for household pets has been ongoing for over a year and during this time CMA has gathered extensive evidence about how the small animal veterinary sector operates currently.
As part of their evidence gathering, BSAVA gave oral evidence to the CMA at their formal hearing at CMA Headquarters on Friday 14th March along with BVA, BVNA, FIVP and SPVS. BSAVA President, Julian Hoad and BSAVA Head of Policy, Adrienne Conroy, represented BSAVA together with representatives from the other professional organisations.
The CMA were keen to hear the views of our respective organisations on a range of topics outlined in the CMA’s recent working papers, from the supply of veterinary medicines and how clients engage with veterinary practices through to the structure of our sector and how we are regulated. Over the past year, BSAVA has contributed to the CMA’s evolving and emerging views in our joint responses to CMA consultations and we are committed to continuing to work with the CMA to support their understanding of our sector.
As part of our Big Issues stream at BSAVA Congress in Manchester, Martin Coleman, Panel Chair and Panel Inquiry Chair of the CMA has been invited to provide us with the latest update on the Investigation and what we can expect as the Investigation enters its next stage. Following the update from the CMA, we have a panel discussion on some of the key findings of the Investigation so far and potential implications for our sector. Panel participants include leaders from across the veterinary sector who bring with them a wealth of experience from their individual backgrounds.
As part of our panel discussion, we will be inviting members of the audience to participate in sharing their views and by putting their questions to the Panel. The CMA session is at 2pm, Friday 21st March.
